Cartier

1970s Cartier for Bueche Girod 18K YG (Ref. 9828) Cal. FP 21

The Cartier name is synonymous with luxury and has been since the brand's inception in 1847. Offering bespoke and unique jewelry to the world’s elite allowed Cartier to grow steadily through the 19th century and eventually introduced new offerings to their clientele. While the most recognizable watch models such as the Tank, Baignoire, and Santos Dumont are primarily celebrated and deseringly so, throughout Cartier's illustrious heritage the Maison created and produced numerous watch designs, from the most simple to extravagant.

While the Maison is best known for its own creations, it is also well known that Cartier also retailed other luxury watch brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe with the Cartier name signed directly on the dial. Moreover, Cartier had specific models made to be retailed directly under their house name from watchmakers like Ebel and Bueche Girod.

Bueche Girod was founded in 1947 by Vital Bueche and created some notable watches in tandem with Cartier, with the most recognizable models being the Maxi Oval Baignoise and the Tank Alongee that was worn by Steve Mcqueen in the "Thomas Crown Affair". The ref. 9828 is a modest and understated, yet very handsome square-cased yellow gold dress watch that utilizes a strap fastening system very similar to Boucheron in this era as well as the iconic Frederic Piguet cal. 21 ultra-thin movement that is seen in many other Cartier models of this era.
