Audemars Piguet

1970s Audemars Piguet Octagonal Dress Watch 18K WG W/ Metallic Silver Dial

$ 6,650

Although Audemars Piguet may be best known for their Royal Oak series, notably designed by Gerald Genta, AP had a long lineage of interesting timepieces both before the conceptualization of the Royal Oak and after. Primarily consisting of dress models, Audemars Piguet produced some highly collectible chronographs and dress models that were stylistically, in many cases, very ahead of their time.

This awe-inspiring, impressive, and opulent Audemars Piguet Ellipse-style wristwatch is an amalgamation of truly masterful craftsmanship that is assembled in a beautifully dignified and cohesive manner that does well to not venture into the realm of ostentatious or flashy. The case, which is ultra-thin even by today's standards, measuring under 5mm in thickness and cast out of 18K white gold, is truly magnificent with its elongated octagonal design. While in almost every other instance we would jump to celebrate the bracelet as a work of art for a watch like this, and it is, but the dial of this Audemars Piguet steals the show as a solid piece of sparkling metallic gold that is further decorated with dual-finished hands that pop off the dial.

CASE & BRACELET

The ultra-thing and masterfully crafted 18K white gold case is in exceptionally well-preserved condition, with no notable signs of being previously polished with no notable wear present on the case sides or the adorned bezel. The unsigned crown is original to the watch. The case back retains all of its factory markings in crisp condition and partially retains a protective sticker. The integrated 18K white gold bracelet extends the roping decoration of the case through its seemingly woven construction. The bracelet is superb, showing no stretch, the size of the bracelet is adjustable within the clasp from 6 3/4 to 7 1/4 inches.

DIAL & HANDS

The original and marvelous solid white gold dial achieves incredible depth with its almost 'raw metal' aesthetic featuring a sparkling metallic finish. The dial itself is in flawless condition, showing no age or damage, while a few of the markers feature minor oxidation. The original and attractive white gold hands feature a dual finish, with a matte texture on the left side of the hand and a mirror polish on the right side of the hand, a technique used to accentuate the hands.
