Tropical 1970s Heuer Autavia Automatic Chronograph (Ref. 11630) Silver "Orange Boy" Dial
The Heuer Autavia came into production in 1933 as a dashboard timer for automotive racing and flying, where the Autavia name is derived, Auto and Aviation. The Autavia was then later introduced in 1962 (The same year Jo Siffert entered Formula One) as the wristwatch we know today and soon became the flagship for the entire Brand.
From the 60s through the 80s, the Heuer Autavia saw an impressive number of variations. From automatic movements to manual movements, racing chronographs, GMTs, and even regatta timers, there's truly an Autavia for everyone. Each variation features unique aesthetic differences, usually accompanied by a clever nickname. This, paired with the incredible engineering and movement-making that was seen by Heuer in this era, makes it no secret why the Autavia, or Heuer in general, has remained a staple fixture within the watch collecting community.

The bidirectional tachymeter ratcheting bezel is exceptional, showing only nominal wear, and the tritium pearl remains intact with a deep orange patina. The case retains its original Heuer signed crown - set on the left side of the case, and the fluted pump pushers are also original to the watch. The case back retains its original factory sticker. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather rally-style strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The vertically brushed silver dial with orange accents is in truly impressive, near perfect condition, showing no damage. The originally black sub-dials have achieved a vibrant tropical brown patina and exhibit no damage. The tritium lume-filled markers and plots feature a creamy yellow patina and exhibit no notable signs of degradation. The original and bright orange tritium hands match the dial and display no degradation when inspected under UV light.
