*Unpolished* 1970s Heuer Monza Chronograph (Ref. 150.501) "Cal. 15" PVD Case

$ 3,950

Founded in 1860 in St-Imier, Switzerland, Heuer remains one of the most respected and beloved vintage brands in the watch world. Having put out iconic models like the Carrera and Monaco, the brand's pentagonal logo became a calling card for quality and auto-racing-worthy design.

The Monza was another one of those iconic names, with an equally iconic backstory. On September 7th, 1975, Niki Lauda won the Formula 1 World Championship for Ferrari, the first championship for the Scuderia in over a decade. Adorned on the side of that winning Ferrari was the "Heuer Chronograph" logo, as they were one of the primary sponsors of Ferrari during that time. Elated with the success of the pedigreed team, Heuer introduced the Monza Chronograph the following year in celebration, naming the brand new model after the home track of Ferrari.

It also utilizes the Cal. 15 movement, which gives this watch the classic opposing crown configuration and time-keeping reliability. Whether you're a Ferrari fan or not, this beauty is the perfect way to wear the Heuer legacy and a whole lot of racing history at the same time.

The case retains its original Heuer signed crown on the left side of the case and also retains its original fluted chronograph pushers on the right side of the case. The case back remains unpolished with gentle wear and retains crisp factory markings throughout. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade black rally strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte black dial featuring red and white accents is in exceptional, near-perfect vintage condition, with the only present element of age being some tonal marks in the 3 o'clock sub-register. The tritium lume plots have achieved a gorgeous creamy pumpkin patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original tritium hands have aged slightly differently, with the hour hand taking on a dark beige patina and the minute hand matching the dial almost perfectly, under UV light inspection the hands exhibit no degradation. In classic Cal. 15 fashion, the running seconds hand is located at 10 o'clock and the 30-minute recorder is at 3 o'clock.
