1965 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1601) Black Gilt Dial
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and beloved Rolex watches ever made. Launched in 1945, it has remained a timeless classic, instantly recognizable as an item of true quality and functional design. The Datejust’s exemplary style makes it an extremely versatile choice, worn just as easily with a suit as with jeans and a t-shirt. The Datejust would make a wonderful starting point for a new vintage collector and is always a great addition to an expanding collection.
The early Rolex Datejust is a watch grounded in sophisticated simplicity, with all the hallmarks of an elevated timepiece while retaining the functionality we've come to expect from Rolex. The glossy black gilt dial offers a classy and artisanal aesthetic that is defined by its depth in appearance, centered around the white gold fluted bezel, and classic Oyster case. Any Rolex Datejust would make for an exceptional addition, however for the more discerning collector, the early gilt dial examples rain amongst the most desired within the Datejust hierarchy.

CASE & BRACELET
The impressive case retains extremely thick and symmetrical lugs that feature minimal signs of use and appear to have been very minimally polished in the past. The white gold fluted bezel is also in wonderfully crisp condition, showing minimal signs of previous use. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The original and truly beautiful glory gilt black dial is very well-preserved, remaining in superb overall condition. Showing no spidering and retaining a mirror-like glossy finish throughout, the only element of age on the dial is an aesthetically pleasing speckled texture and patina that is consistent throughout the dial. All of the tritium lume plots remain fully intact with no degradation present under U.V. light inspection, and have achieved a lovely golden yellow patina. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and display no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The seconds hand does exhibit some minor oxidation which is common. The metallic date wheel is original with closed 6's and 9's.
