1966 Rolex Day-Date 18K WG (Ref. 1803) Silver "Doorstop" Dial
The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most iconic and beautiful watches in the Rolex catalog. The Rolex Day-Date earned the nickname "President" after it was rumored President Dwight Eisenhower wore one, but Eisenhower actually wore a Rolex 18K yellow gold Oyster-Perpetual Datejust which Rolex gifted to him in 1953. However, the nickname "President" is quite fitting for the Day-Date as Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, Reagan, Nixon, and Roosevelt, all wore the Rolex Day-Date. Apart from its executive affiliation, the Day-Date is a symbol of status and luxury, only produced in highly refined precious metals including 18K yellow, white, and rose gold and also platinum, featuring both the day and date complications within the movement.
Rolex always finds the perfect balance between luxury and functionality, and this 1966 Rolex Day-Date ref. 1803 really sets itself apart in solid 18k white gold and features a simple and sophisticated "Doorstop" silver dial. We love white gold watches as they carry the weight of solid 18k gold with a subtle statement and an extra level of refinement.

CASE & BRACELET
The excellent 18K white gold case features thick, symmetrical lugs that show light signs of use and appear to only show a gentle "sleeve polish" from wear but no evidence of actual polishing is present. The 18K white gold fluted bezel is in crisp unpolished condition and shows gentle signs of use. The case back is in excellent condition and appears to be unpolished while retaining its factory finishing with natural signs of use. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The beautiful and original "pie-pan" silver sunburst dial is in exceptionally well-preserved condition and features "Doorstop" 6 and 9'clock markers. The dial itself displays only gentle aging that amplifies the vintage aesthetic of the watch without affecting the condition. The tritium lume plots have achieved a handsome creamy patina and feature no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly, under U.V. light inspection the hour hand does exhibit some lume loss and remains stable and the minute hand shows no degradation. The metallic date wheel is original with "open" 6's and 9's.
