1982 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5513) Mk. IV MAXI

The Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 is the embodiment of the classic dive watch. The 5513 is simple yet sophisticated and rugged The ref. 5513 was first introduced in 1962 and ceased production in late 1989. The ref. 5513 is a purpose-built dive watch that lacks the date function like other Rolex Submariner models. (eg. Ref. 1680.) This specific 1982 Rolex Submariner ref. 5513 is commonly referred to as the MAXI-IV Dial. The Maxi IV Dial is commonly seen in cases stamped in the late 6 million to late 7 million seral range and introduced around 1981.

The features of the Maxi IV Dial include the following:

  • “Zig-Zag S” in “SUBMARINER”
  • The word “SUBMARINER” written above and shorter in length than the depth rating below it.
  • The “=” sign in the depth rating is directly below the “A” in “SUBMARINER” and is slightly to the right.

CASE & BRACELET

The strong case is believed to remain unpolished showing its original factory chamfers and finishing with honest signs of use. The "fat-font" bezel insert remains black in coloration and is in excellent condition, though the tritium pearl is missing from the 12 o'clock. The case back shows some light corrosion. The original Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces is in wonderful unpolished condition, retaining 11 links and exhibiting almost no stretch from use.

Dial & Hands

The matte black Mk. IV MAXI dial is in superb original condition. The tritium lume plots have achieved a vibrant yellow patina, showing no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation or lume loss under U.V. light inspection.

ACCESSORIES 

None. The watch was recently serviced and is running perfectly backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
