1954 Rolex Oyster-Perpetual (Ref. 6284) Explorer "OCC" Dial

While Rolex began using self-winding movements in the early 1930s, it wasn't until 1950 that it was given a proper name with the introduction of the Oyster-Perpetual. Many models in the Rolex catalog would go on to wear the names Oyster and/or Perpetual on their dials, including this gorgeous no-date model from 1958.

The tenured model has been a mainstay within the Rolex catalog since its introduction and remains as one of the most sought-after offerings. Vintage variants perfectly blend simplicity with sophistication and often feature unique details not seen in other models. Whether you're a seasoned collector or looking for your first entry point into vintage watches, the Rolex Oyster-Perpetual is always a worthy addition to any collection.

This rare piece is perfect for anyone interested in vintage watches, as the start of a collection or as an addition. With a beautiful white explorer dial with applied markers indices and logo, and the "Officially Certified Chronometer" (OCC) text, which is the precursor to the "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" (SCOC) dials we see today, making this a beautiful time capsule for the wrist.

CASE & BRACELET

The impressive case retains full and symmetrical lugs that show gentle wear and minimal evidence of previous polishing. The smooth stainless steel bezel exhibits light signs of use and is in excellent overall condition. The inside of the case back is double stamped, featuring a crossed out reference 6285 and the correct reference 6284, this was common to see in this era. The watch was sourced on a Rolex "U.S.A. Made" stretch-rivet link Oyster bracelet which retains 10 links that show nominal stretch and will fit up to a 6 1/2-inch wrist. Additional links can be provided upon request.

DIAL & HANDS

The intricate and matte white "OCC" Explorer dial with recessed rose gold markers and numerals is beautifully preserved and very attractive. The dial itself shows light age, which is appropriate, but has also taken on a charming warmth throughout and retains all of its applied accents and text in excellent condition. The radium lume plots all remain intact, though they show minor degradation throughout when inspected under UV light. The alpha hands and blue steel sweep-seconds hand are in remarkable condition with minimal oxidation present, under UV light inspection the hour hand does show some lume loss, and the minute hands exhibit no degradation.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch is keeping time perfectly, but the service history is unknown. A movement service can be provided upon request.
