1966 Rolex Daytona (Ref. 6240) "Big Daytona" With Prototype Bracelet
The Rolex Daytona Ref 6240 was initially produced as a prototype and the reference 6240 stands out from 6239/41 by featuring screw-down pushers which is the first time this feature was implemented onto a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona and is thus the first waterproof Rolex Daytona. The Rolex Daytona 6240 was in limited production from 1965 until around 1969. Due to the prototype nature of the ref. 6240 Rolex Daytona, 6240s with serial numbers within the 1.2 m to 1.6 m can be seen with a variety of different dials those most commonly seen are those without the words "Oyster" or "Daytona" on them, and with "T-Swiss-T" at 6 o'clock.
We love the vintage Cosmograph range of due to the fact that they have a high level of contrast which is something the modern Rolex Daytona range of timepieces has lost due to the completely monochromatic look of the dials found on today modern reference range.

CASE & BRACELET
The case retains nice full and even lugs. The screw down crown and Mk 0 pushers are original to the piece and remain in excellent condition. The original MK1 bezel does show some delamination around the 11 o'clock -12 o'clock position but is free from any cracks or major blemishes and shows correct character thickness and font. Rolex twin lock crown could be a service replacement due to the fact that the coronet is underlined signifying a later era replacement. The prototype Rolex Oyster 7835 bracelet has some stretch and comes with 14 original links which retain era correct 71N end pieces. The case back has a light engraving that can be removed if desired.
DIAL & HANDS
The excellent and early silver 6240 dial possesses an early and large font "Daytona" under the 12 o'clock position sometimes referred to as the 6240 "Big Daytona". The dial is free of any blemishes or scratches and is in crisp and clear condition. The black subdials contain silver text which is another key and specific characteristic of the 6240 Big Daytona silver dial variant. The subdials are crisp and clear without any marks or blemishes. The sweep second hand in the 9:00 o'clock subdial is the original long thin variant found with early Daytona examples that posess the valjoux. The 2 and 3 o'clock lume dots are missing from the dial but the other dots remain intact with slight degradation which is common for early Rolex Daytonas. The tritium filled tangs are original and match the lume dots on the dial. The tritium responds correctly when inspected under U.V. light.

None. The watch was just completely overhauled and is running at COSC spec.
