1967 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5513) "Meters First"
The Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 is the embodiment of the classic dive watch. Simple and sophisticated, yet also rugged, the 5513 is a purpose-built dive watch. The absence of the date function seen on other Submariner models (eg. Ref. 1680.) contributes to the clean look of this archetypal style. First introduced in 1962, Rolex produced the reference until 1989.
The depth rating began appearing on Submariner dials in late 1955 and was standard on all models by 1956. Early depth ratings were printed with the meters first. This continued until early 1970 when Rolex made the switch to a feet first depth rating, reportedly to appeal to the expanding US market.

CASE & BRACELET
The wonderful case has been lightly polished in the past, retaining sharp chamfers with strong lugs and crown guards that show light signs of use. The original bezel insert has achieved a deep gray fade and shows very little signs of use, the pearl at the 12 o'clock was replaced to match the dial. The case retains its original 7mm twin-lock crown. The original acrylic crystal shows some light surface scratches but is otherwise in very good condition. The inside of the case does show some corrosion and the reference and serial numbers between the lugs are both clear and remain visible. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The matte black "meters first" dial has a charming appearance and remains in wonderful vintage condition. The dial itself shows some spotting and signs of aging which helps boost its vintage aesthetic. The original tritium lume plots have aged to a nice golden coloration with some darker spots throughout, under U.V. light inspection the lume plots show no degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly, when inspected under U.V. light the hour and minute hands show no degradation or lume loss, the minute hand shows minor lume loss.
