1979 Rolex Oyster-Perpetual (Ref. 1018) "36mm Case"
Often referred to as the sibling to the ref. 1016 Explorer—the Rolex Oyster-Perpetual ref. 1018 is quite the anomaly for its era and has a cult-like following all its own. What makes the ref. 1018 so alluring to the collector community is a culmination of several factors and in many enthusiast’s eyes the ref. 1018 is the best of both models, with the 36mm case of the Explorer and the sophisticated symmetry of the Oyster-Perpetual line. While these changes to the Oyster-Perpetual may seem incremental on paper, in the metal the presence of the ref. 1018 is completely unique in comparison to the 34mm counterparts of the reference. It is also apparent that very few of the Rolex ref. 1018 were produced as the overall availability of the reference is noticeably scarce, however, it is always a treat when a good example pops up.
This Rolex Oyster-Perpetual ref. 1018 would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection as a daily driver and would provide a classic feel while bringing a unique look while worn on the wrist.

CASE & BRACELET
The superb case has been gently polished in the past and retains very thick and symmetrical lugs that display light signs of use. The smooth stainless steel bezel shows minimal signs of honest use and is in excellent overall condition. The inside of the case back is stamped II.69 which is correct for this reference, since the parts for the ref. 1018 were batch produced and the manufacturing for this part stopped in 1969 with very few models created after this year. The original Rolex 78360 Oyster bracelet with 558 end pieces retains 11 links that show light stretch and will fit up to a 7-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The simple yet sophisticated original silver sunburst dial is in fantastic vintage condition, with some subtle elements of age seen at the bottom edge of the dial but with no damage otherwise. The tritium lume plots all remain fully intact when inspected under UV light and mostly feature a creamy golden patina with a few darker lume plots present. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light.
