Tropical 1972 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1601) Blue Sigma Dial
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee shirt.
This specific Rolex ref. 1601 from 1972 features a uniquely tropicalized blue Sigma dial which is both stunning and very uncommon, this Datejust would make a great start for a new vintage collector or be a great addition to an expanding collection. A Sigma dial is a Rolex dial named for the letters printed at the bottom of the dial at the 6 o'clock position. Most Rolex dials are commonly marked with “T Swiss T,” under the 6 o'clock marker, however, a Sigma dial is marked “σ T SWISS T σ.” This signifies the use of gold components within the dial.

CASE & BRACELET
The excellent case has been very lightly polished in the past and retains full and symmetrical lugs that show light signs of honest use. The white gold fluted bezel is in great overall condition with minimal signs of previous use. The Rolex 6251H rolled-link Jubilee bracelet with 55 end pieces retains 24 links that show moderate stretch and will fit up to an 8 1/4 inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The gorgeous and one-of-a-kind blue "pie-pan" Sigma sunburst dial is a work of art, boasting a unique spotted patina consisting of silver and brown spots that accentuate the blue dial perfectly. The tritium lume plots all remain intact and have taken on a light grey coloration, under U.V. light inspection there is consistent degradation in the lume plots throughout. The hands are tritium OEM Rolex service units from the 90s and exhibit no patina or age. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch was just serviced and is keeping time and is functioning perfectly. The watch will come with a 1-year warranty of accurate timekeeping.
