Longines is one of the oldest continuously operating watch manufacturers in the world, with roots dating back to 1832. Over that immense period of time, the brand has crafted some truly incredible—and incredibly accurate—timepieces. In fact, it's one of the reasons Longines is the official timekeeper of the Kentucky Derby, where accuracy is paramount.

Whether it's a chronograph, diving watch, or a simple dress model, a Longines wristwatch never seems to disappoint. Longines' history is sprawling with an array of beautiful and functional watches, including beautiful sports watches, military-issued timepieces, and unique dress watches.

This piece falls somewhere between the latter two categories, a beautiful model that is somehow equal parts formal and military. Featuring a stout 33.5mm case and a gorgeous cream-and-black tuxedo dial, it's the basis and inspiration for some of the Heritage Classic repro pieces the brand put out a few years back. This, then, is an opportunity not only own a piece of horological history but also an incredibly cool, timeless watch that can be worn with anything, in any situation.

CASE & BRACELET

The case shows honest signs of use and retains full, sharp, symmetrical lugs. The unsigned crown is believed to be the original to the watch. The case back shows wear and tooling marks, as expected for the watch's age, but the factory markings remain deep and crisp. The watch comes supplied on a two-piece leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The aged cream-and-black tuxedo dial shows off a charming aesthetic and appropriate signs of age, with coloring that's reminiscent in some ways of an old newspaper. The radium lume inside the Arabic numerals has aged to a dark beige. The subseconds nestled at 6 o'clock is in good condition overall but shows similar age to the rest of the dial, with a slight mark around the "50." The hands, including the sub-seconds hand are all blued, which adds another dimension in certain light. The minute had has been professionally color match to the remaining lume on the dial and hour hand.
