Longines is one of the oldest continuously operating watch manufacturers in the world, with roots dating back to 1832. Over that immense period of time, the brand has crafted some truly incredible—and incredibly accurate—timepieces. In fact, it's one of the reasons Longines is the official timekeeper of the Kentucky Derby, where accuracy is paramount.

Whether it's a chronograph, diving watch, or a simple dress model, a Longines wristwatch never seems to disappoint. The brand's history is sprawling with an array of beautiful and functional pieces, including beautiful sports watches, military-issued timepieces, and unique dress watches.

This ref. 5412 definitely shows off that military vibe in an incredibly unique and beautiful way. Featuring a well-proportioned 36mm case and a gorgeous salmon dial that's warmed up significantly over the years, it's a piece that somehow both stands out and remains subtly attractive at the same time. Add to that the pointer date function, which gives the watch a little extra "tool watch" aesthetic, and you've got an incredibly cool, timeless watch that can be worn with anything, in any situation.

CASE & BRACELET

The case is believed to have been polished in the past but still shows full, sharp, symmetrical lugs with honest signs of use present. The unsigned crown is believed to be the original to the watch. The button at 2 o'clock can be depressed to quickly and easily change the date, and it still works beautifully. The case back shows light wear and tooling marks, as expected for the watch's age. The watch comes supplied on a two-piece leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The aged salmon dial has taken on a warm patina with some speckling that shows off a charming aesthetic and appropriate sign of age. The radium lumed Arabic numerals have aged to a dark patina and exhibit some minor degradation when inspected under UV light. The sub-seconds hand nestled at 6 o'clock is in good condition overall but shows similar age to the rest of the dial. The primary handset, including the date hand, are all blued, which adds another dimension in certain light. The lume within the baton-style hands has aged to a slightly lighter patina than the dial with no degradation present under UV light inspection.

ACCESSORIES
