1955 Breitling Navitimer “AOPA” (Ref. 806) 'Valjoux Cal. 72'

$ 16,500

First introduced in 1954, the Breitling Navitimer was the direct successor to the 1942 Breitling Chronomat and is truly something special when it comes to high-powered functionality in aviation watches.

The Navitimer took the original slide rule bezel from the Chronomat and evolved it into a navigational computer for pilots. This groundbreaking bezel can be used to calculate flight times, distance traveled, airspeed, ascent and descent rates, and fuel-burning rates, and it even has a metric conversion tool.

The first Navitimers—like this early model—housed a Valjoux 72 movement and were only available through the AOPA (Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association), meaning super low production numbers and a very rare combination.

Early AOPA Navitimers have an excellent history behind them and have become one of the most sought-after vintage timepiece models that watch collectors look to get their hands on, especially when in good condition. And this is a prime example.

CASE & BRACELET

The 41mm case appears to have been lightly polished in the past but still shows sharp case geometry, factory finishing, and very little wear from use. The original beaded bezel is in excellent condition. The "Large B" logo crown and pushers remain original to the watch. The original crystal shows some natural crazing throughout. The case back remains clean showing little signs of wear with reference and logo clearly visible. The watch will come supplied on a two-piece leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black silver gilt dial is in gorgeous vintage condition. The original radium lume markers have taken on a lovely sandy coloration and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original hands match the dial well though the radium lume appears to have been restored early in the life of the watch when inspected under UV light. The outer sliding bezel is in exceptional condition, showing little wear while functioning perfectly.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
