1956 Omega Seamaster Automatic (Ref. 2846-2848 1SC) 'Cal. 490' Silver "Crosshair" Dial

$ 1,950

The Speedmaster might be the watch that made Omega a household name (and took it to the moon), but the Seamaster has been around quite a bit longer and has its own incredible legacy worth talking about.

First released in 1948 in celebration of Omega’s centennial anniversary, the Seamaster became a worldwide success and was the brand’s top seller for a long time. Today, it’s the longest-running name in the Omega catalog and still holds a special place in plenty of collectors’ hearts.

This ref. 2846-2848 1SC definitely deserves that special place. Powered by the workhorse in-house Omega cal. 490 automatic winding movement and featuring a broad-lugged stainless steel case with silver crosshair dial, this watch offers excellent wrist presence and exudes style and history like very few watches can.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent case has been gently polished in the past and retains thick and symmetrical lugs that retain slight chamfers. The case retains its original "flat foot" Omega-signed crown. The case back retains its original factory markings and features a hand engraving that reads "F.L. Greenland, Jr." The watch comes on an original Omega 8220 "beads of rice" bracelet with 11 end pieces. The bracelet retains 11 links and will fit up to a 7 1/4-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The original silver "crosshairs" dial has aged exceptionally well, featuring a warm patina throughout. The radium lume at the tip of the bullet-style markers exhibits some expected light degradation, though all the plots remain present under UV light inspection. The original dauphine hands are in excellent condition and retain all of the original radium lume, which has taken on a dark grey patina that matches the dial perfectly.
