1967 Omega Automatic 'Gold-Filled' (Ref. LU6304) "Bluebonnet Bowl" Dial
In 1967, the University of Colorado squared off against the University of Miami at the Bluebonnet Bowl, one of college football's postseason bowl games that year.
"Okay, but what does that have to do with watches," you might be asking. Well, back in the good old days, when your college football team made it to a bowl game, the players on that team got watches to commemorate the occasion. This 1967 Omega Automatic is one such watch, given out to a player named Bielat, according to the engraving on the case back.
Its 34mm yellow gold-filled case and long, straight lugs give the piece that iconic midcentury Omega vibe, making it both relevant and a suitable option in any environment. But what really sets this one apart from the rest is the aged silver dial, which features the words "The Bluebonnet Bowl" across the top and the bowl's logo—a blue star with white leafing underneath separated by the year, 1967.
It's a beautiful watch that would look good on just about any wrist and has a bit of fun, sports-centric history attached to it as well. Oh, and for those who are wondering, the Colorado Buffaloes took home the trophy—in addition to this watch—that year.
