1978 Rolex Submariner (Ref.1680) "Tiffany & Co."
The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1966, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering, manufactured from 1966-1973. This watch is an example of what is referred to as the "White Dial." It is the first Ref. 1680 with the word "Submariner" in white lettering. Around the late 1950’s, Tiffany & Co. began printing their name on the dials of the watches sold in their stores. Tiffany dials” are simply regular Rolex dials that have been stamped with the Tiffany & Co. name. Despite the tight level of control that Rolex now maintains over their products, co-branding was somewhat common during the 1960’s thus making co-branded Rolex dials very rare and highly sought after.
This extremely rare example is a watch many collectors spend years searching for to put into their collection. From the excellent "Tiffany & Co." dial to the unpolished case finishing. This example is for the true collector that is looking to round out their collection with a significant timepiece rarely seen on the wrist.
