1971 Seiko 5 Sports SpeedTimer Chronograph (Ref. 7017-6040) W/ Box

$ 675

Depending on who you ask, the original Seiko 5 Speed-Timer, which came out in 1969 and featured the famed cal. 6139 movement, was the first automatic chronograph ever brought to market. That's quite a legacy to uphold. And while this model from 1971 doesn't feature that famed movement, the cal. 7017 featured herein had its own claim to fame – it was only 5.9mm thick, which set a world record at the time among automatic movements. Add to that an incredibly cool case shape and a speedometer-esque dial, and you've got a real winner on your hands, or wrist.

CASE & BRACELET

The unpolished cushion-shaped case is exceptional, retaining strong factory brushing and crisp lines with light signs of use. The watch features its original crown and pushers. The case back retains all of its factory engravings, including the Daini logo, in crisp and deep condition. The watch will come supplied on its original stainless steel bracelet.

DIAL & HANDS

The black dial evokes the feeling of being in a sports car with its Arabic numerals in 5-minute increments. The inlaid lume on the hands has aged incredibly well and is a light cream color. The orange seconds hand matches the Speed-Timer name on the dial, both of which lend a pop of color.

ACCESSORIES

The watch comes with its original box and 2 bracelet links. The watch is running and functioning correctly, though the service history is unknown. A movement service can be purchased upon request.
