2000s Eterna Porsche Design Chronograph (Ref. 6625.11) ’25th Anniversary’

In 1856, a couple of guys named Josef Girard and Urs Schild started a watch movement manufacturer called, appropriately enough, Dr. Girard & Schild. They rebranded a few times, first to Schild Freres, then—perhaps after realizing that neither of the previous names rolled off the tongue—they started putting the name Eterna on their watch dials. That one stuck.

150 years or so later, after having been acquired by F. A. Porsche, Eterna and Porsche Design put out this incredible 25th-anniversary limited edition piece to commemorate the original 'Chronograph 1'.

While all-black PVD Porsche Design chronographs are probably most famous for an appearance on the wrist of LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell played by Tom Cruise in the hit movie "Top Gun", it's much more than a movie prop. These watches have become a favorite for both watch collectors and car enthusiasts, and just seem to get better the more worn they are.

In that way, this example is an especially good one, featuring some patina on the edges of the case and the bracelet that just give it an extra air of having "been there" and "done that." It's number 1,884 out of a total 1,998 pieces that were made in commemoration and, in our opinion, is way better than any more modern versions you'll find out there.
