1967 Omega Seamaster Geneve (Ref. 166.002) 'Cal. 565' Silver "Crosshair" Dial

$ 1,850

While Omega is best known for its Seamaster and Speedmaster lines, there are plenty of other offerings that the brand has released over the years that deserve their fair share of recognition.

Watches released under the Geneve moniker certainly fall into that bucket. Created both as an homage to Omega's Geneva-based craftsmen and to celebrate the records set by their watches at the Geneva Observatory, the name "Geneve" first began appearing on Omega watches in the early '50s. Ultimately, the Geneve-branded watches became known for deftly blending the technical precision Omega was known for—particularly by using the same high-quality movements found in the Seamaster and Dynamic lines—with slightly more modern design cues targeted at a younger generation.

This ref. 166.002 is actually a combination of the well-known and the lesser-known, featuring an aged silver "crosshair" Geneve-signed dial and a Seamaster-medallioned case back, making it a rare specimen that is both sought-after and nice to look at. It's powered by the in-house Omega cal. 565 automatic winding movement that features a date function and is, like many Omega movements out of this era, a true workhorse.

The sharp case is believed to remain unpolished as the many angles of the lugs and bezel remain crisp and pronounced. The case retains its original Omega signed crown. The case back shows light, honest signs of wear and features the Seamaster medallion in the center. The watch comes supplied on a two-piece leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The aged silver "crosshair" dial is a rare treat to see and beloved by many collectors, with some incredible speckled patina. The hour markers feature onyx enamel inlays beneath lume plots that have aged to a fantastic creamy pumpkin color. The original dauphine hands retain their factory onyx enamel and lume inlays that match the dial perfectly. Under UV light inspection, there is minor degradation in the dial lume and no degradation present in the lume of the hands.
