1970s Heuer Chronograph (Ref. 1614) Valjoux Cal. 7765 "Made in France"

Fresh from the personal collection of style icon, automobile enthusiast, and Urban Outlaw himself, Magnus Walker, comes a 1970s Heuer Chronograph in fantastic condition.

By the 1970s, the Heuer brand had already amassed a rich pedigree as a watchmaker, with most of the brand's success coming from its innovations within the chronograph sector of watchmaking. During this time, Heuer also developed a very good relationship with French watch designer Gerald Monnin. This collaboration most famously resulted in Heuer's first dive watch, the ref. 844, however, Monnin also designed several other watches under the Heuer name.

This beautiful ref. 1614 is one such piece and is heralded as such with the "Made in France" text at 6 o'clock, where we would normally see "Swiss" for Heuer's in-house designs. The ref. 1614 chronograph utilizes a Valjoux cal. 7765 chronograph movement and a Monnin-designed case that features a unique, yet handsome tonneau design with an array of sweeping polished surfaces and brushed sides.

DIAL & HANDS

The brushed taupe "fume" dial is the perfect mix of elegance and sportiness, calling to mind the color variations of a root beer float. The two-tone grey sub-dials create a unique depth at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock where they're positioned, and the neon orange hands pop off the dial for an ultra-legible contrast. The dial itself is virtually flawless and shows no age or wear. The original tritium hands feature a charming creamy patina with no degradation present under UV light inspection.
